Srinagar, Oct 06 (KNO): National Conference on Monday said that Congress has approached the party over the seat-sharing for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and that the high command will soon take a call.
Speaking with reporters, party spokesperson, Tanvir Sadiq, per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the candidates for the Rajya Sabha would be decided by the party's high command.
"Candidates won't be outsiders. The Congress has approached the party to discuss the seat-sharing and the discussion is going on. Candidates will be announced soon by the leadership," he said.
The nomination process for four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu & Kashmir commenced today after the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued separate notifications, outlining the timetable for the polls.
The Poll Body has fixed October 24 as the date for polls, if necessary, with counting of votes on the same day.
Tanvir Sadiq also said that the statehood must be restored to Jammu & Kashmir to respect the people's verdict in the Assembly elections. "We have been promised statehood restoration after delimitation and elections. It is time for the statehood restoration now," he said—(KNO)
